Board of Directors
The Gateway LEGO® Users Group is managed by a board of directors elected by the membership of the club to two-year terms. Anyone who has been a member of the club for at least one year is eligible for election to the board, but to be elected to one of the four executive positions — President, Vice-President, Treasurer, or Secretary — you must have been a member for two years. Elections are staggered with half the positions up for reelection every year. Nominations open in the fall and elections take place at our February club meeting.
The board serves an administrative role for the organization. They run meetings, set a budget and approve expenses, keep records, and appoint members to non-elected roles such as LEGO Ambassador and Quartermaster. But all members are empowered — and encouraged — to take on the core functions of the organization, such as coordinating and staffing displays and working with the public to share our love of LEGO building.
Our bylaws, which contain information about membership, tax-exempt status, as well as other governance matters, can be found here.
Procedures
The board maintains a procedures document that is available to all club members. This document is an attempt to demystify how we approve events, what things like set drafts are, how we manage support programs available through LEGO, and how you can check out club inventory to assist with a show, to name just a few items. While the procedures document is a living document and can be edited at any time, the board undertakes a comprehensive review every two years.
Club members can access the procedures document here.
Expected Behavior
Gateway LUG is all about fun and creativity. You only need to be an adult and have a passion for LEGO to join, meaning people of many different backgrounds could be a part of the club. Everyone who joins should feel welcome and able to experience the fun that this club is focused on. Not everyone is going to have the same views, and that’s okay, but hate, discrimination, and any attempt to make someone feel unwelcome have no place in this club.
Club members can access our full code of conduct and the conflict resolution policy here. Prospective members are welcome to contact us if they have questions about acceptable conduct at club meetings or events.
